Day Habilitation is a program of Phoenix Frontier, Inc. and has been providing these services since 1995 at our Erie county location and since 2002 at our Niagara county location. Phoenix Frontier, Inc. strives to achieve excellence and to empower persons with developmental disabilities to live as independently as possible and to allow each person to grow to the fullest human potential.
OUR SERVICES are based on the premise that people learn the most when they are doing things they like to do. Program participants choose their activities in day habilitation based on their interests. Therefore, the volunteer opportunities and other activities correspond to the interests of the individual. If a person has a desire to do a certain activity, every attempt will be made to develop opportunities in that area of interest. They will also be encouraged to try different activities in order to make choices based on their own experiences.
Throughout these activities life skills are taught: social skills, basic education, including arithmetic and reading, problem solving, and money management.
In Erie County, Day Hab Services may also be paired with our Prevocational Program for those who are interested in work.
Services are provided Monday through Friday at both our Erie and Niagara County locations. Transportation is provided for those individuals who are unable to access public transportation.
Activity schedules are developed and distributed in advance so that individuals are able to choose their activities and will be aware of how to plan for lunches and how to budget their money for the following week.
Participants choose their activities reflective on their interests and goals. Therefore, volunteer opportunities, community outings and other activities correspond to the interests of the person.
If a person has a desire to do a particular activity, every attempt will be made to develop opportunities in that area of interest. They will also be encouraged to try different activities in order to make informed choices. For the undecided, a broad range of activities allow participants to determine areas of interest.
By actively participating in our program, individuals are able to learn how to better socialize, problem solve, budget money, plan and practice reading and math. Day Habilitation Specialist and Direct Care staff are available at all times to assist in the training activities, offer support, and provide protective oversight.
