Individual Residential Alternatives are a way of assisting individuals with disabilities to live as independently as possible in a community based setting. IRAs are small group homes with 24-hour supervision, based on the needs of the residents. Individuals develop an individual service plan (ISP) with their service coordinator and other members of a program planning team (family, friends and staff). This rehabilitation plan identifies services and training that the person needs (short-term and long-term) while reflecting their own personal wishes. Examples of training provided are: household management, cooking, money management, medication administration and self-care. Because the residences are small in size, staff is able to offer individual attention in providing skills training, socialization opportunities, and recreation. Services are provided in a caring and friendly home atmosphere. The program also allows each consumer choice and the opportunity to be as individualized as possible. Staff is on duty 24/7 to assist and teach, promoting individual independence. Each IRA varies in size, location and style to meet the individualized needs of the residents, keeping them in as close proximity to their families as is possible. Each home is built and decorated with input from the residents. A team approach makes each house a home. Our Residential program provides job opportunities while allowing more individuals to experience life, in a home like atmosphere. The program maintains ongoing staff training including medication administration, on-site residential management, Registered Nursing Services, an on-call Director and a team approach. ELIGIBILITY Individuals must be developmentally disabled and must be Medicaid approved in order to be eligible for residential placement.
